UniView

2026, Design and development

An unofficial iOS app for students at the University of Passau. Live library seat occupancy and today's cafeteria menu, on the home screen.

The idea

Students check two things before going to campus: is there a free seat in the library, and what’s in the Mensa today. UniView answers both in a glance, including from home-screen widgets.

What I built

  • No scraping in the app. Scheduled jobs in Postgres trigger edge functions that parse the library occupancy page every five minutes and the cafeteria feed twice a day.
  • Read-only public data. Anonymous access is enforced with row-level security, with tests for the parsers and the policies.
  • Self-refreshing widgets. Small, medium and large widgets update every 15 minutes, and the app never overwrites a widget with older data than it already has.
  • Design system. Tokens that support several theme personalities in light and dark.

UniView is not affiliated with the University of Passau.

Built with Expo, Supabase, iOS widgets.
